David Fitzgerald is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Field Research Director at the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at the University of California, San Diego. He is the author of A Nation of Emigrants: How Mexico Manages its Migration (University of California Press, forthcoming 2008) and co-editor of Four Generations of Norteños: New Research from the Cradle of Mexican Migration (CCIS, forthcoming 2008) and Mayan Journeys: The New Migration from Yucatán to the United States (CCIS, 2007). He has published on international migration in the American Journal of Sociology, International Migration Review, Comparative Studies in Society and History, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Qualitative Sociology, New York University Law Review, and Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. His current project studies liberalism and racial discrimination in immigration and citizenship laws in the Americas since 1850.
