Laura Hammond is Lecturer in Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. An anthropologist by training, she has worked in the Horn of Africa since 1993 on issues relating to forced migration and return, conflict, and food security. She has worked as a consultant for a range of humanitarian and development organizations, including UNDP Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya, as well as USAID, gtz, ICRC, Oxfam, and Medecins Sans Frontieres. During 1998, she worked as an advisor for the Somaliland Minister of National Planning and Coordination, and more recently she has conducted research with Somali migrant communities in the US and UK. She is the author of This Place Will Become Home: Refugee Repatriation to Ethiopia (Cornell University Press: 2004) as well as several book chapters and journal articles.
